Where’s Molly
Where’s Molly is the latest novel to be checked off my to be read list. This is book 2.5 in the Cat and Mouse duet from author H.D. Carlton.
I’ve been reading this series all week, with really mixed results after each book. There is a ton of hype on social media about this series, with everyone recommending it. It’s all anyone in dark romance book groups talk about. Sometimes things can be overhyped, and I feel that was the case with this series.

Right now I’m finding myself irritated that I gave into the hype and read these books. I can certainly say I’ve read them and contribute to discussions now, but that’s about it. Do you ever find books that are just too over-hyped? Sometimes the hype really is worth it. Other times it is way off the mark.
At the time of publishing this review, Where’s Molly is available to read via Kindle Unlimited, making it more easily accessible to readers. I appreciate this fact because I sometimes forget that my subscription exists.

About Where’s Molly
A spinoff of the Cat & Mouse Duet…
“Molly Devereaux has been missing for more than two weeks, and police are still searching for the girl who seemed to vanish out of thin air. The world still wants to know… Where’s Molly?”
In my dreams, I never escaped the Oregon woods.
Life after death isn’t easy to accept, especially when I still feel like a ghost.
Now, I live deep in the mountains of Montana—the paradigm of beauty. But they are also the home of horrors.
Horrors that I only unleash at night.
When my pigs are allowed to feast.
It is strongly recommended to read Haunting Adeline and Hunting Adeline before reading Where’s Molly.
Important Note: This is a dark romance that contains dark subject matter. Please refer to the author’s website for content warnings

Thoughts on Where’s Molly
“I will chase away all your nightmares until they grow wary of returning. They will fear me, my little ghost. But you never will.”
H.D. Carlton, Where’s Molly
Where’s Molly is a spinoff from Hunting Adeline. Spoiler alert… She is the one who escaped captivity prior to Adeline in Hunting Adeline. Adeline found her journal to read and that is where they are connected.
I think there are better side characters who could have had a spinoff that would have been a bigger hit. Like Rio, for example. I find it odd how none of the important side characters have a spinoff story, but the author throws in some random character for a couple chapters, and she gets an entire book.
I don’t even really remember much about Molly in this story. The more memorable character was Cage, and his story. I actually enjoyed his obsession with Molly, and his relationship with his mother. Those were memorable interactions for me.
Past that, I couldn’t connect with any of the characters. It still remains that Sibby from Satan’s Affair is my favorite character in all of these books. She was the only one I really liked, and the only real reason Hunting Adeline was a decent book. But I want characters I can either connect with, root for, love, or hate.
Characters need to be memorable. They can’t just be bland and boring, and that is exactly what Molly is, bland and boring.

Final Thoughts on Where’s Molly
“I call her a little ghost, yet for some reason, I never considered that the brat would actually ghost me.”
H.D. Carlton, Where’s Molly
I’m calling Where’s Molly a three star read. There was nothing egregiously wrong with it. But it felt like a forced story. It seems like H.D. Carlton likes to throw random characters into her stories, just so she can create a spinoff, and that is exactly what happened here. She did the same thing in Hunting Adeline, with her grandmother having a stalker.
It just feels unnecessary and kind of useless.
I’ve honestly already forgotten everything about this book, and I’m really glad I got my thoughts out quickly for it. But by the time I hit the publish button on this review, this post will be my only lasting memory of reading Where’s Molly.
I haven’t decided if it is the dark romance genre that I dislike, or it is simply H.D. Carlton’s writing that I dislike. Because I’ve tried hard to enjoy these books in this series, and they just fall short for me. I’m going to read different authors in this same genre so that I can officially make the decision about if it is the genre or the author that is the problem.
As with all of my reviews, I encourage you to read the books and form your own opinions. Because reading is a subjective thing, as all art is. You may be one of those people who absolutely love the series, and I hope you do. But it simply wasn’t the series for me.
At some point in the future, I may give H.D. Carlton’s writing another try. But for the near future, I’m over it and need to move on to books that I know I will enjoy more than these.

Author Acknowledgments
First as always, a huge thank you to my readers. You all have put up with my slow writing and stuck around during times of extreme burnout where I didn’t know if I was successfully going to be able to write another book. I can’t thank you enough for your continued support, and being someone I can rely on no matter what. I love you all from the depths of my black soul.
Secondly, thank you to my amazing husband. Without your support, I wouldn’t be where I am today. We’re the best power couple that ever lived, in my personal opinion. You’re also the best husband in the world, and I’m so glad to be dominating the world with you by my side. I love you so much.
And thank you to Sam, the most dedicated stalker, and my best friend. You’ve been an incredible support system and looking at your face 24/7 while you yell at me to write while simultaneously distracting me with anal tattoo ideas has been the highlight of my days. Even if it was initially forced, I’m so thankful you’re in my life. Forever. I love you, weirdo.
Kristie and Samantha, sitting in the diner with you two is one of my favorite memories. And where Molly’s story was born. I love you both and am so eternally grateful for you two.
Next, thank you to my alpha readers, Amanda, May, and Tosh. I would trust all three of you with a trust fall, but even more, I can trust you guys with my book babies, and that’s some real shit. Thank you for never being my yes-men, but always my biggest supporters. And thank you for tearing my books apart and treating me like a commoner that can barely spell, kicking my ass when I don’t know the answers to questions about my own books, and figuring my shit out for me. My books definitely would not be what they are without you three.
To my betas, Autumn, Nicki, Ana, Janine, and Taylor, I appreciate all of you so damn much. Again, for not being my yes-men, but incredible supporters who kick my ass. Thank you, thank you, thank you for being by my side.
Thank you to my kick-ass editors, Angie and Rumi. Thank you for always making these books look shiny. I appreciate you both so much.
And last but certainly not least, thank you to my bestie, cover designer, and cheerleader, Cassie. You always make these covers so beautiful, but your soul is even prettier. I love you.
