Love at First Latte

Love at First Latte is the latest short story to be checked off my to be read list. The title is what captured my attention, as I thought it was cute. This will be my first story from author Brianna McCloud.

If you have followed me for any length of time, then you know how much I love a good short story that I can read in an hour. Because even on my busiest days, I can devote an hour to reading. I often say to myself and others, just put your phone down and pick up your Kindle instead.

You’ll be amazed at how much you can read when you replace mindless social media doom scrolling with reading. Even I amaze myself with that one. Sometimes I read a short story throughout the day, just a chapter at a time when I have a few minutes, or all in one sitting later in the evening when things quiet down. It all depends on the day, but I’ve learned how to tailor my reading time to fit into my day, and you can do the same very easily.

At the time of publishing this review, Love at First Latte is available to read via Kindle Unlimited, making it even more accessible to readers. I love this, because it reminds me to utilize the subscription that I’m paying for instead of allowing it to sit unused while being billed for it.

I also love Kindle Unlimited because it allows me to discover new authors without spending a ton of money on unknown authors. It reduces the risk of disliking a book, so to speak.

The Meet Cute Disasters Series

Sometimes love starts with sparks. Sometimes it starts with total disasters.

From spilled lattes to app meltdowns, food truck fiascos, and wedding mix-ups, every story in the Meet Cute Disasters series brings you a short, laugh-out-loud romantic comedy with witty banter, swoony heroes, and happily-ever-afters guaranteed.

Each book can be read in a single sitting, in any order, and is perfect for fans of quick, feel-good romcoms.

Accidental love. Inevitable laughs. Happily ever afters – one disaster at a time.

About Love at First Latte

Emma Cooper’s morning explodes when Miles Hartley crashes into her with his americano and ruins her startup pitch. But the venture capitalist who ruined her lucky blazer becomes her unlikely hero by lending her his suit, saving her presentation, and somehow getting himself assigned as her company advisor.

Now they’re forced to work together, and their “professional” boundaries are dissolving faster than sugar in a hot cup of joe. Between caffeine-fueled, late-night strategy sessions and his terrible coffee puns, Emma’s falling for the one man she absolutely cannot date.

When business and pleasure collide, will they end up with the perfect blend or a bitter aftertaste?

Sweet, funny, and closed‑door. Love at First Latte isa quick, feel‑good read packed with witty banter, startup shenanigans, and a swoony happily‑ever‑after you can finish in one sitting.

Thoughts on Love at First Latte

“We’re at a diner that the health code forgot about, eating breakfast for dinner, and my jacket smells like smoke.”

Brianna McCloud, Love at First Latte

In Love at First Latte we meet Emma and Miles. They meet in a coffee shop when Miles crashes into Emma and spills coffee all over her, potentially ruining her day completely.

But Miles manages to save the day, and things keep right on improving from there.

The premise of this story is wonderful, and it really does have funny moments. My biggest complaint was that it came across as too technical with all of the talk about startup companies, how to build it, what it does, the business meetings, and more.

It was cute, but I didn’t feel anything reading it. I want a story, even a short one where I feel emotions. I want it to drive me to keep reading, to force me to think about it later on. But no, I felt nothing. I read a story in about an hour, and I was happy with it. But nothing past that.

Final Thoughts on Love at First Latte

I’m calling Love at First Latte a three star read. Because it lacked emotions, I will have forgotten about it by the time I finish this review. There wasn’t anything egregiously wrong with it, which is why I’m not rating it any lower.

But there wasn’t much to make me want to rate it any higher than three stars either. It wasn’t memorable, nor would I buy it or rave about it to my friends and family.

This is Brianna McCloud’s first short story she has published. Love at First Latte tells me that she has promise, and not to write her off. I have a feeling that with more practice, her writing will just continue to improve.

I felt the same way when I read The Mountain Man’s Hidden Flame from Tiffany Bloom. It was good, but not great. Her writing has only continued to improve since then, and I predict that Brianna McCloud will be the exact same way. I’m looking forward to reading more from her, to see if my prediction is correct.

Practice really does make perfect. Writing isn’t any different than cooking, weightlifting, or anything else. It is never perfect the first time, it always takes practice.

As with all of my book reviews, I always encourage you to go and read a book yourself and form your own opinions. Reading is subjective, and that is part of the fun. You may end up loving and raving about Love at First Latte, just because you read my review and decided to give it a try. This is always my hope when it comes to my reviews, and my highlighting of an author.

I noticed that Brianna McCloud has another short story in this series coming out soon, and I do plan on reading it and sharing it with you here. Stay tuned!

About the Author

Some people write to remember, others to forget. Some people write to learn or to teach or to figure something out about themselves. Me? I still don’t know why I write, only that I can’t stop and don’t intend to anytime soon.

I write romantic comedies with a lot of heart and more than a little steam. My debut novel, The Pancake House, is coming soon, the first of many beach-themed love stories I need to get out of my head and into your hands.

Also: I’ve never met a sundress I didn’t like.
