Clause of Attraction
Clause of Attraction is the latest short story to be checked off my to be read list. I had never heard of Delia Duke prior to this, but I’ve been making more of an effort to utilize my Kindle Unlimited subscription and discover new authors I’ve never heard of through it.
I like short shorties and novellas to read because if you’ve ever played the dangerous “just one more chapter” game before bedtime and didn’t get enough sleep because of it, you know exactly what I’m talking about.

Discovering new authors can be a ton of fun. Or it can be a disaster. I’ve had my fair share of both, but that is part of the adventure. It often reminds me of thrift store shopping, where you never know when you’ll find that one hidden gem you need to share with everyone.
Have you read Clause of Attraction? Come on in and let me tell you about it!

About Clause of Attraction
Two lawyers. One partnership. Zero self-control.
Ubiquitous workplace anxiety building up.
Innate attraction brewing over.
And the underlying intense desire all set to explode.
Alina and Reign are locked in a high stakes battle for the ultimate prize: a coveted spot as Partner at the prestigious law firm where they both work. With a career-shaping case on the line, their fierce rivalry collides with the scorching chemistry they’ve buried for far too long.
When an audacious client openly flirts with Alina, Reign feels the tug of desire. That’s when their professional boundaries blur, spiraling into a game of passion, secrets, and ambition that neither can escape. As power-plays turn personal, the lines between desire and betrayal become dangerously thin.
Winning the partnership comes at a great cost, but losing each other in the process might cost them even more. In a winner-takes-all world where want trumps need and ambition beats emotion, they’ll have to decide how far they’re willing to go and what they’re willing to risk. Lose everything or win it all.
Thoughts on Clause of Attraction
I am struggling hard to find good things to say about this short story. It is a romance, but it is the most cringey romance story I’ve ever read. It feels like it was written by a fourteen year old girl with a crush, and this was her imagination of how things would be if that crush turned into a relationship. But lacks experience in relationships and romance at the same time, so it is all in her imagination.
I wanted to throw my Kindle out the window at the truth or dare portion of this. What adult, especially a college educated lawyer, plays truth or dare? Also the whole texting each other while at lunch with clients is gross. I wouldn’t pay anyone for their time just to have them be on their phones, and especially texting each other. I found that to be unprofessional.
The ending is also really abrupt. There is absolutely no resolution to who got the promotion, Alina or Reign.
I think my only saving grace for this story was the fact it was short. But that is also part of the problem. There was no character development, the writing felt too immature for me to take, and I was annoyed through the entire thing.
Final Thoughts on Clause of Attraction
I’m calling Clause of Attraction a one star read, which I don’t do very often. But the writing was just too immature and lacked character development for me to be invested and want to continue reading.
I’ll also say that I just finished reading Lights Out, and I’m probably partially judging this one based on how good that was in comparison. I wanted that same level of amazing when it comes to a romance, and this one was just too juvenile.
I found myself angry when I finished reading this short story, and I wanted a refund on the time spent reading it. Which is why I cannot rate it any higher than one star. Honestly, if this were any longer of a story, it would have been a do not finish for me. Because it was a short story and on Kindle Unlimited, I pushed through it.
This was the first writing from author Delia Duke that I’ve ever read, and it will likely be the last. At least until she matures in her writing, but she has a very long way to go, in my opinion. So I really cant see myself wanting to read anything else she has written.
As with every book or short story, I’m just here to tell you about my own opinions. I always encourage my readers to read books and form your own opinions. I love it when a book is talked about, especially when it is hated, and it drives others to go read it and they end up loving it. I really hope that happens with you, as it has to me in the past.
