Everything We Didn’t Say
Everything We Didn’t Say from author Nicole Baart is my latest read. Have you read this novel yet? This book is absolutely worth taking the time to read if you haven’t already.
“Rage and desperation made people do inexplicable things, and Juniper knew a thing or two about secrets.”

About Everything We Didn’t Say
Juniper Baker had just graduated from high school and was deep in the throes of a summer romance when Cal and Beth Murphy, a childless couple who lived on a neighboring farm, were brutally murdered.
When her younger brother became the prime suspect, June’s world collapsed and everything she loved that summer fell away. She left, promising never to return to tiny Jericho, Iowa.
Until now. Officially, she’s back in town to help an ill friend manage the local library. But really, she’s returned to repair her relationship with her teenage daughter, who’s been raised by Juniper’s mother and stepfather since birth—and to solve the infamous Murphy murders once and for all.
She knows the key to both lies in the darkest secret of that long-ago summer night, one that’s haunted her for nearly fifteen years.
As history begins to repeat itself and a dogged local true crime podcaster starts delving into the murders, the race to the truth puts past and present on a dangerous collision course. Juniper lands back in an all-too-familiar place with the answers to everything finally in her sights, but this time it’s her daughter’s life that hangs in the balance.
Will revealing what really happened mean a fresh start? Or will the truth destroy everything Juniper loves for a second time? Baart once again brilliantly weaves mystery into family drama in this expertly-crafted novel for fans of Lisa Jewell and Megan Miranda.
Thoughts on Everything We Didn’t Say
Everything We Didn’t Say is told in two different times, the past and the present. So you’ll want to be sure to pay attention to the chapter title, as I had to. It becomes a lot easier as you read, but definitely something to pay attention to in the beginning.
My one major complaint with Everything We Didn’t Say is the characters. It seems like there are too many, and they aren’t easily explained, requiring the reader to go back in places to be sure of who is who and where they fit in. Nicole Baart could have explained the characters better so it was easier to follow along.
This novel took a little bit to get going, but once you’re familiar with the characters, it is easy to follow along with, and becomes really enjoyable.
I love how the past and present are interwoven as each chapter goes along, and it makes perfect sense. This was the perfect way to write this story, and it kept just the right pace to make me want to keep reading.
I found myself wanting to keep reading, especially the farther into the book I read. Everything We Didn’t Say is a book that kept me wondering.
It took a little bit to build up, but I must say that it was totally worth waiting for. The ending shocked me, and I definitely wasn’t expecting what happened. But that is the best part!
I found myself up far past my bedtime reading this book for two nights in a row. If you’re anything like me, this is a book to start early on a rainy Sunday morning and spend the day reading it. Don’t start it an hour before bedtime!
The Ending
The ending to Everything We Didn’t Say is epic, and very unexpected. I thought I had it all figured out, and I was so wrong!
Final Thoughts on Everything We Didn’t Say
Everything We Didn’t Say is definitely worth a read! I wasn’t sure I would enjoy it in the beginning, but it exceeded my expectations, and I love that.
This was the first novel from author Nicole Baart that I have read, but I’m definitely interested in reading some of her other work now.

Oh, I love a good mystery! And, I’m always happy when a story has an unsuspecting ending. I’m putting this on my book list!
