Wanted by the Mountain Man
Wanted by the Mountain Man is the latest short story to be checked off my to be read list. This is a standalone story from Lilah Hart, but also part of a sixteen story series from multiple authors. It can be read either way, as a standalone or part of the overall series as well. In my case, I’m choosing to read it as a standalone at the moment, because I want to focus on Lilah Hart stories.
I’ve been reading another V.C. Andrews book this week, and it is heavy. It’s a good book, but still a heavy one. Taking breaks to read short romance stories like this is a huge asset in being able to read more, without falling into a reading slump after reading a heavier subject matter.

I think short stories like this are essential for that. It really does break up heavier reading, and keeps me reading. If you ever fall into a reading slump, give a short story a try. Because both the chapters and story itself are short. There is something really satisfying and rewarding about finishing a chapter in any story, even if it is only two minutes long. It still brings that feeling of accomplishment, and reminds me why I love reading.
It has become one of my goals to read all of Lilah Hart’s short stories and check them off the list below. This goal is also an excellent way to utilize my Kindle Unlimited subscription more than I have in the past.

About Wanted by the Mountain Man
She’s just a diner girl…until one flirty logger turns her world upside down. One summer kiss underwater, and she’s falling fast.
Life as a server in my mom’s diner has its perks. One of the biggest perks is the gorgeous loggers who come in for breakfast. I don’t pay much attention to them until Rourke comes into my life.
He’s hot, fun to flirt with, and he looks at me like I’m the only woman in the world.
When he invites me to a summer get-together at Lumberjack Cove, how can I resist? Especially when he takes me up on my idea to go underwater for our first kiss.
I’m already thinking “forever,” but what if he doesn’t feel the same?
Thoughts on Wanted by the Mountain Man
In this story, we meet Pepper and Rourke. They both live in the area and are not new to it. Pepper works in the diner, and Rourke does some type of logging and/or construction.
This was another short, less than an hour read from Lilah Hart. I’ve come to really appreciate short stories like this, because it is a break from reading other full novels, especially when they are heavy or have a difficult subject matter. I can switch to these and be able to continue reading without falling into a reading slump or bouncing around between novels and never actually finishing one.
My biggest complaint with this one is that I simply didn’t connect with the characters. It had a very basic and generic feel to it, and I dislike that. Because it means the story is forgettable.
It still did the job I wanted it to do, which was give me a break and distraction from the full novel I’m currently reading. But it could have been any story with how basic and general it was. I wanted far more character development, and I know Lilah Hart is capable of that. She’s given me plenty of character development in other stories that I wanted.
But this one just fell flat for me. This may simply be because I’ve been reading a lot of her writing lately and comparing them to each other. Or it could be that I’ve developed a favorite series and this just wasn’t that. There are always a number of possibilities.
Final Thoughts on Wanted by the Mountain Man
I’m calling Wanted by the Mountain Man a three star read. There was nothing wrong with it, the writing was great. But I just couldn’t connect with the characters at all. They lacked some development. This just wasn’t memorable for me, which is why I’m calling it a three star read.
By the time this review is published and I’ve moved on to other stories, I’ll have forgotten that I even read this one. Which is one reason I’m grateful for my blog. It helps me remember books when I’ve long forgotten them.
I’m still a Lilah Hart fan, and I will continue reading her stories to review here in the future. I almost always recommend that my fellow readers and followers give it a try and form your own opinions. You may enjoy Wanted by the Mountain Man far more than I did, and I hope that is exactly what happens.
