Mountain Man’s Christmas Light

Mountain Man’s Christmas Light

Mountain Man’s Christmas Light is the latest short story from author Lilah Hart to be checked off my to be read list. This is book four in a six part series called Wildwood Valley Christmas.

I first discovered Lilah Hart when I read her Wildwood Valley Brides series, and I’ve been slightly obsessed with all of her stories that are based in Wildwood Valley. It has become a goal of mine to read everything that Lilah Hart has written, and I’m slowly working my way down the list.

Short stories like this are great in autumn and winter, because I find myself busier than usual. Fall equals hoodies, soup, and football. Not to mention the fact I’m pretty sure time somehow speeds up as the holidays approach. With short stories, I can still have the feeling of accomplishment that comes from finishing any story, short or long.

At the time of publishing this review, all of Lilah Hart’s short stories, including Mountain Man’s Christmas Light are available via Kindle Unlimited. This makes them easily accessible to many readers, and one of my favorite aspects of reading her stories. I can read them each and every day without breaking the bank.

About Wildwood Valley Christmas

When crafters flock to Wildwood Valley’s Christmas Festival, they expect sales and holiday cheer—not six rugged mountain men with hearts as tempting as the town’s twinkling lights. From soap makers to jewelry designers, each woman discovers that love can be handmade too, especially when it comes wrapped in flannel and spoken with a slow mountain drawl. In the Wildwood Valley Christmas series, every booth hides a spark, every kiss feels like a gift, and happily ever after is always in season.

About Mountain Man’s Christmas Light

Her Christmas lanterns save the festival—and catch mountain man Wade’s eye. Can she trust his promise of forever?

I’m just trying to survive the Christmas festival with my dignity intact.

My handmade wooden lanterns aren’t exactly flying off the table, my student loans are crushing me, and I’m pretty sure I’m destined to be single forever. At twenty-three, I’ve never even been kissed—pathetic, right?

Then Wade Metcalfe shows up at my booth.

He’s six feet of pure mountain man perfection, all broad shoulders and blue eyes that make me forget how to breathe. When the festival’s pathway lights fail and he needs to borrow my lanterns for the children’s Christmas pageant, I should say no. These lanterns are my livelihood, and kids break things.

But something about Wade makes me want to say yes to everything.

One handshake turns into helping him set up the lighting. One conversation leads to dinner in his truck. One perfect first kiss changes everything.

I’m falling hard and fast for this protective, patient man who handles my delicate lanterns like they’re made of spun glass. But when I watch him with the festival children, I see the future we could have—and it terrifies me. I’ve already lost everyone I’ve ever loved.

How can I risk my heart when beautiful things always end?

Thoughts on Mountain Man’s Christmas Light

In Mountain Man’s Christmas Light we meet Brielle and Wade.

Brielle has had a tough life. Grief is hard to carry, especially when it happens during childhood. I’ve been there myself, losing my day at the age of fourteen. I had no life experience to fall back on, and it really did turn into survival, as I tried to navigate grief and life changing as I went to high school right after. I really related to Brielle and her struggles that she still carried with her.

Wade has fallen quickly and fallen hard for Brielle. He is the kind of guy who will move mountains for the people he loves and cares about, making him the most amazing character in the story.

I loved that they ended up together and found their perfect life. That made me very happy. Everyone deserves to find light after a storm.

My biggest and only real complaint here is that Mountain Man’s Christmas Light moved far too fast, in my opinion. I wanted more detail and character development. It seemed to just sort of jump around a bit too much for my liking.

But also keep in mind that I’m partially judging this not just as a single story, but in comparison to the other LIlah Hart short stories that I’ve read prior to Mountain Man’s Christmas Light. It is really hard not to compare them when I’ve read so many. This is still a great story. It just wasn’t as perfect as others that I’ve read in the past.

Final Thoughts on Mountain Man’s Christmas Light

I’m calling Mountain Man’s Christmas Light a 4 star read. I enjoyed it and there was nothing terribly wrong with it. It simply wasn’t my favorite, and I will not be likely to read it again.

I’m not calling it a three star because it was too memorable for that, and I did enjoy it. But I can’t call it a five star because I’m not going to read it again, and that is a big criteria for a five star read for me. Which is why I’ve comfortably settled on a four star review.

I am looking forward to the next story in the series. It puts me in a Christmas mood and I find myself wanting to not only celebrate the holidays, but indulge in my own creativity and make things.
