Overtime with Orion
Overtime with Orion is the latest short story to be checked off my to be read list. This is a bonus story in a multi-author series called Mountain Men Fall Harder. Lilah Hart originally wrote the story Hayrides with Hank for this series, and this is a bonus story.
I first discovered Lilah Hart and her stories when I read the Wildwood Valley Brides series, and I’ve been hooked ever since. If you’ve followed me for any length of time, then you already know how much I love a good short story. It has become one of my goals to read all of the short stories Lilah Hart has written. I have a long way to go, but I’m slowly working my way through the list.

I was searching Amazon for stories that can be read in about an hour or less, and also available on Kindle Unlimited. I have a tendency to forget my subscription exists, and it is just billed month after month, and I’m not using it nearly as much as I should be. Short stories help me not only utilize my subscription, but also discover new authors I wouldn’t have otherwise read.
I appreciate stories like Overtime with Orion from Lilah Hart because even on the busiest day, I have time to read a short story like this. It allows me to still chase the feeling of accomplishment that comes from finishing a book, but much faster, and that prevents me from falling into a reading slump when I am super busy.
These kinds of stories are also perfect for a break in between heavier novels as well, and give me the happily ever after ending that I always crave. I’ve been reading much darker romance stories lately, and I always find I need a break in between. Or to simply read something much more positive and happy. Or not as dark, really.
Right now I’m trying to beat the clock with an outdoor painting project, which takes up a ton of my time. Living in the rainy pacific northwest, I have to capitalize on any good weather I have, so my reading time can sometimes suffer because of that. I’m also house and puppy sitting for a friend, so stories like this with short chapters are great because they can be easily interrupted to handle whatever is needed at any given moment.
As I mentioned earlier, Overtime with Orion is part of a multi-author series called Mountain Men Fall Harder. But each story in the series can be read as a standalone. If you have a favorite author in the series, read theirs!
I am choosing to read only Lilah Hart’s story, Overtime with Orion, from this series right now. I may go back later and read others. BUt that is the beauty of a series where all books stand alone. It can be a choose your own adventure type of reading experience.
At the time of publishing this review, all of Lilah Hart’s stories are available via Kindle Unlimited. This makes them even more easily accessible to readers, and I appreciate that! It means that I can continue to read her stories without breaking the bank. It is also an excellent way to discover new authors, as I did with Lilah Hart when I first started reading her stories.

About Overtime with Orion
His playing days are over. His winning season just began.
I’m reorganizing my friend’s book booth when he walks up behind me.
Tall, broad-shouldered, and absolutely gorgeous. The kind of man who makes my librarian brain short-circuit and my carefully organized world tilt sideways.
He’s also Cassie’s brother.
The famous football star whose career ended too soon. The one she’s been worried sick about for months. The last man I should be fantasizing about while I’m supposed to be watching her booth at the fall festival.
But when Orion looks at me like I’m the most fascinating puzzle he’s ever encountered, all my reasons for staying away start crumbling.
One football lesson by the lake changes everything.
He’s lost without the game that defined him. I’m hiding behind my books and my perfectly ordered life. Together, we’re combustible.
He says he’s only in Maple Ridge temporarily. I know getting involved with my friend’s brother is asking for trouble. But some risks are worth taking.
Even when they might change your whole world.
Thoughts on Overtime with Orion
In Overtime with Orion we meet Larkin and Orion.
Larkin is a librarian, and can talk constantly about books, organization, and it is clear she loves her job. But is she hiding behind it?
Orion is a former football player who has no idea what to do with his life now that he is no longer actively playing due to an injury. He’s having an identity crisis.
Let me start by telling you that fall is my absolute favorite time of year. It means hoodies, soup, and football. I’ve said before I love short stories because I can finish one and still watch football. I’ve been watching way more football this year because ten, yes ten, players from my favorite college team were drafted into the NFL this year. Which means I’m paying attention to far more teams than I usually do.
It is simply adorable when Larkin asks Orion to teach her about football. Partly so she can actually follow along with her best friend when they’re talking about it. But also, it is obviously important to Orion, and a great way to learn about him as well.
This is actually a great piece of advice for any couple. Take the time to learn about each other’s hobbies, passions, and whatever they enjoy doing. If it is sports, reading, cooking, or anything else. Give it a try. There is nothing better than having your partner take an interest in the things you love.
I loved all the characters in Overtime with Orion. Larkin and Orion are absolutely perfect for each other, and things heat up very quickly. Then there is Cassie, Orion’s sister and Larkin’s best friend. Will she react well to them being together? I will say that her reaction was perfect.
Overtime with Orion is short and steamy, but packs a ton of character development and emotions into it. I found myself rooting for Larkin and Orion to have their happily ever after.
Final Thoughts on Overtime with Orion
I’m calling Overtime with Orion a five star read. Because this is one I’m going to be raving about and praising for quite a while. I will also absolutely read this story again in the future. It may very well become my welcome to football every year from now on.
I’ve been reading Lilah Hart’s stories for several months now, and there are always some that are better than others. The more I read, the more I develop favorites. But I’m noticing that her writing is just continuing to improve, and her stories suck me in and keep me wanting to read.
I love that I’m rating a lot more of her stories five stars these days, and Overtime with Orion is no exception. I personally don’t think you can go wrong with a quick hour-long Lilah Hart story. Especially if you want steamy and quick.
