About Be Careful What You Wish For

Meet David Patzpowski, a happy-go-lucky kind of guy who seems to get everything he wants, everything his heart desires. Success, love, marriage – they’ve all come at no cost. But David is about to find out that the things he takes for granted aren’t all what they seem.

Thoughts on Be Careful What You Wish For

Be Careful What You Wish For is a short story, at just eleven pages. It takes a great skill to write something so short, yet be as powerful as what this story is.

Be Careful What You Wish For is a story that caught me completely off guard, and I love that! It is extremely well developed for as short as it is, and it sucked me in from the beginning.

“He didn’t want to be a story in tomorrow’s edition of the paper he had been reading, with a headline like, Man Killed Over Pork Sausage.”

A.C. Hutchinson, Be Careful What You Wish For

We have all heard people, especially our parents say to be careful what you wish for, and this story is actually a fantastic reminder of why it is so true. There is something a bit scary within the idea that whatever we wish for could come true.

It is a great reminder that we shouldn’t take anything in life for granted, especially the people in our lives. Because you never know when those people are going to start wishing they were not part of our lives.

The way A.C. Hutchinson weaves that message into this spooky short story is nothing short of captivating and impressive.

Final Thoughts on Be Careful What You Wish For

I do find it odd that this story was in the horror section, because it isn’t the typical horror kind of story. Creepy, because it makes sense, sure. But horror, no. Definitely would not call it a true horror story, by any stretch of the imagination.

I always love a good short story with my morning coffee, but I’ve begun reading them before bed instead of puttering on my phone and scrolling through social media. This is the perfect read for bedtime. It will quiet the mind without keeping you up past your bedtime or scaring you into being awake all night.

Be Careful What You Wish For from author A.C. Hutchinson was the first I’ve read of his writing, but it will not be the last.
