Born in Ice

Born in Ice is the latest novel to be checked off my to be read list. It is the second book in a three part series from author Nora Roberts.

I had read this series many years ago when I was much younger and absolutely loved them. For whatever reason, I found myself wanting to read them again and I’m not sure why. But I decided to indulge this need and went for it.

About Born in Ice

Brianna Concannon is the kind of innkeeper who doesn’t mind the harsh winters of Ireland—and the empty bed-and-breakfast that comes with them. But this year, a famous American author needs a quiet place to stay while writing his next book.

A charmer whose easy smiles mask a guarded past, Grayson Thane plans to spend the cold winter alone. But his lovely landlady adds a complication he never expected. She’s exactly what he’s looking for in his heroine. And soon Grayson and Brianna will learn that sometimes fate has a plan of its own. Sometimes, fire can be born in ice…

Thoughts on Born in Ice

It is fascinating to me how much my perception of books changes as I get older and I am in a different place in my life. When I read this book originally twenty some odd years ago now, this was my least favorite book in the trilogy. Now it sits as my favorite so far.

The reason I enjoyed this one now is there is so much depth and true character development in it, and it actually impressed me more than I expected. The characters aren’t perfect, they have a past that isn’t always pretty, yet they manage to all come together and find happiness. They’re all learning and growing, as people should do to become better versions of themselves.

I appreciate how real the characters were in Born in Ice. Briana seemed so boring and basic in the first book, but Nora Roberts really brought her to life here and I’m very glad. It was a slow burn for a romance novel, and I loved that.

I constantly found myself wanting to read more, as it just got better and better.

Final Thoughts on Born in Ice

I thoroughly enjoyed Born in Ice, and that fact makes me want to read Born in Shame now and finish the trilogy to see what else happens that was mentioned in this and the previous book. I have higher hopes for the third book, now that I’ve read this one and enjoyed it. I also want to read more about Briana and Grayson and where they are in their lives when the third book happens.

Overall, I’m generally not a big Nora Roberts fan, but I’m finding I enjoy this series the best out of everything I’ve read from her. I hope you enjoy this one as much as I have!
