Burning for the Mountain Man
Burning for the Mountain Man is the latest short story from Lilah Hart to be checked off my to be read list. I’ve been an avid reader of Lilah Hart and her short stories for several months now, and loving them.
I first discovered Lilah Hart when I read the Wildwood Valley Brides series, and it has become my goal to read all of her stories from there. I’m slowly checking them all off my list as time goes on. I found her stories by searching Amazon for romance stories that could be read in an hour.

Burning for the Mountain Man is part of a nineteen book series from multiple authors called Whispered Echoes Season 2 – A Wounded Mountain Man. All of these stories are designed to be read as standalone stories, or as part of the larger series.
At this point I’m only reading the story from Lilah Hart as a standalone. But you are welcome to read it however that you choose, if that is just by your favorite author, or the entire series. I love series like this because it is kind of a choose your own adventure in reading.
At the time of publishing this review, all of Lilah Hart’s short stories and all of the stories in this series are available via Kindle Unlimited, making them easily accessible to readers.

About Burning for the Mountain Man
She’s a virgin seeking opportunity. He’s a scarred recluse seeking solitude.
I came to Wildwood Valley to escape.
My overbearing family. My uncertain future. The suffocating feeling that life was passing me by while I studied for a real estate license in a town with no opportunities.
I definitely didn’t come here to fall for a broken mountain man.
But then my heater breaks, and Wilder walks into my hotel room while I’m wearing nothing but a towel. One look at those dark eyes, that scarred body, those capable hands—and I’m done for.
He thinks his scars make him unworthy. The burns on his shoulder. The hearing he lost in the explosion. The nightmares that keep him isolated in a cabin high in the mountains.
He’s wrong.
I see past the damage to the man underneath. Strong. Kind. Haunted by demons he won’t let anyone help him fight.
When he shows me his cabin with its wall of windows overlooking the valley, I make him an offer he can’t refuse. My virginity. My trust. My heart—if he’s brave enough to take it.
He thinks one night will be enough. That I’ll go back to Georgia and forget about the grumpy handyman who fixed more than just my heater.
But I’m not going anywhere.
And I’m about to show him that sometimes the most broken things are exactly what we need to feel whole.
Mountains keep their secrets, but can love heal their scars?
The untamed beauty of the mountains is no match for these scarred men. Fate brings women who hold the power to mend their wounds, but first, they must navigate the rugged terrain of their pasts. As they confront their scars, they discover that true healing can only come from one thing… love.
Each story in ‘Whispered Echoes’ delves into the lives of our wounded heroes and the courageous women who dare to love them.
Burning for the Mountain Man is a short and steamy instalove romance set in the small mountain town of Wildwood Valley, North Carolina. This 1-hour read is part of the Whispered Echoes Season 2 series. It’s an ex-military, age-gap romance with lots of steam. If you like short, steamy instalove novellas, you’ll love the entire Whispered Echoes Season 2 series!
Thoughts on Burning for the Mountain Man
In Burning for the Mountain Man we meet Sage and Wilder.
Sage is in Wildwood Valley to meet her friend Sienna and her new man, Blade. If you are interested in reading more about Sienna and Blade, scroll down to my review of Mountain Man’s Flirty Farmgirl.
But back to Sage and Wilder. Bobbi the matchmaking innkeeper is back at it again here. She is easily my favorite secondary character in the stories based in Wildwood Valley.
Things heat up pretty quickly for Sage and Wilder, and their connection is undeniable. Wilder still tries to convince himself that he isn’t good enough for Sage, and tries to publish himself for falling for her.
I really liked the emphasis on a veteran moving forward after deployment and combat. It isn’t easy, but it is still possible. Sage helps Wilder do exactly that, and shows him that a punishing life of solitude isn’t the answer.
This story hit more feelings than I was expecting it to, if I’m being perfectly honest. I expected a great story, because I’ve read enough Lilah Hart stories that I knew it would be great. But I wasn’t expecting such a connection to the characters.
Final Thoughts on Burning for the Mountain Man
I’m calling Burning for the Mountain Man a five star read. Because it is one that I will absolutely read again. It is one that hit all the feelings, created amazing characters, and was an enjoyable read.
At this point, I’ve elected not to read the other stories in this specific series. This is because my to be read list is already huge, and I buy books like I’m immortal. But if the rest of the series from other authors is anywhere near as good as this, I will go back and read them in the near future.
