Curtains in Cabo
Curtains in Cabo is the latest short story to be checked off my to be read list. If you’ve followed me for any length of time, then you know I love a good short story. Sometimes when my attention span is short, a short story is the perfect thing to make sure that I don’t fall into a reading slump and get stuck there.
This is the second short story from author Langley Gray that I’ve read. I thoroughly enjoyed Murder at Mosswood Lake, and so I wanted to explore more of her short stories.

Discovering new authors can be a ton of fun. Or it can be a disaster. I’ve had my fair share of both, but that is part of the adventure. It often reminds me of thrift store shopping, where you never know when you’ll find that one hidden gem you need to share with everyone.
At the time of this review, this title was available via Kindle Unlimited, and I have been wanting to utilize that subscription more. This was a perfect opportunity!

About Curtains in Cabo
Leigha Plunkett is off to Cabo to celebrate her parents’ fiftieth anniversary—on the very same day she gets dumped and fired. Honestly? The timing couldn’t be better. What’s more healing than sunshine, white sand, and an infinity pool (or three)?
But her plans for a piña colada-fueled reset go sideways when she stumbles across a body on the beach. With hotel staff clamming up and local police brushing it off, Leigha’s left with more questions than answers. Who was the woman? What really happened to her? And most importantly—could Leigha’s family be next?
This bite-sized mystery is perfect for poolside reading—with just enough sun, sand, and suspense to devour in a single afternoon.
Thoughts on Curtains in Cabo
Curtains in Cabo is the first in a three part series called “Victims on Vacation” from Langley Gray. I first discovered her when I read Murder at Mosswood Lake and loved it. This prompted me to start reading more of her writing, and see if I enjoyed those as much.
This one started out a tiny bit depressing, and I found myself annoyed by our main character, Leigha. She was just being used by her boyfriend, instead of learning how to say no. She wasn’t the confident woman she needed to be. BUt that was the catalyst for going to Cabo a day early, and her life totally changing. This made it worthwhile, but I found myself annoyed in the beginning. It didn’t suck me in until a couple chapters in. If you find yourself in the same boat, keep reading. It gets so much better, I promise.
Then she goes off to Cabo on a vacation with her family. Which is entertaining all by itself. Her mother is the queen of planning, and I am amazed anyone had time to even breathe. This kind of made me laugh, the whole family dynamic and how everyone gets along.
Then Leigha finds an unconscious body on the beach her first night there. What happens next? It really does seem to be brushed off by everyone, the hotel staff, the police, and anyone else who hears about it.
When Leigha starts finding clues and putting pieces together, she is on a roll. It is a fun yet fast adventure to go on to find out all the answers.
Final Thoughts on Curtains in Cabo
Curtains in Cabo could be a full novel, very easily. I think this is always the sign of a good writer. When a story feels complete, yet it could easily be expanded into a full novel. I really wanted to see more of Leigha and Calvin, and see if their relationship develops. I hope we’ll get more of that in the next story.
I’m calling Curtains in Cabo a five star read. It was a fun adventure to go on through this story and see what happened and find all of the answers. I am also excited to see where the next two stories in this trilogy take me.

About the Author
Langley Gray was squarely the main character of her life as she traveled the world working in fashion, film, and finance until she was lucky enough to share the page with her own male protagonist. Three kids and a house in the suburbs later, she decided to add some adventure back into #thatminivanlife by pursuing her dream of writing fiction.
She draws on her degree in psychology to shape (read: torture) her characters and is a ghostwriter for cozy mysteries and children’s books on the side.
In her spare time, she is intensely interested in all paddle sports and thinks if she drinks just one more cup of coffee, she can solve all of life’s mysteries.
