Grumpy Mountain Man

Grumpy Mountain Man

Grumpy Mountain Man is the latest short story to be checked off my to be read list. I first discovered Lilah Hart and her short stories when I read the Wildwood Valley Brides series, and I was hooked.

When I found these, I had been searching Amazon for short romance stories that could be read in an hour or less. In the summer time, I struggle with reading longer novels because the weather is amazing and I’m just busier, as I imagine everyone is. These kinds of stories are perfect to keep me reading.

I take my Kindle everywhere with me, just in case I have a few minutes to read here and there, and I capitalize on that fact. Sometimes I have a few minutes waiting in line, waiting for a bus, or anywhere else I can pick up my Kindle instead of my phone.

The great part of these stories is that the chapters are short. Which means it won’t take long to get through, but they can also be interrupted without feeling like the world is ending because I desperately need to keep reading.

At the time I’m writing this review, all of her stories are available on Kindle Unlimited, making them easily accessible, and helping me to utilize my subscription more than I normally do. Which is great, given this is something I pay for, but often forget it exists.

About Seduction Summit Lumberjacks

A national baking competition has come to the Seduction Summit Lodge, bringing aspiring bakers from all over the country. For six contestants, sweets aren’t the only thing on the menu. The logging crew nearby is stocked with hot lumberjacks who have no interest in finding love…until it sneaks up on them.

About Grumpy Mountain Man

He’s a gruff lumberjack dead set on his goal. When his hard work threatens a baker’s dreams, he’s forced to examine what really matters in life.

My cake has fallen.

I don’t want to say the dude with the chainsaw outside the baking tent is to blame, but he did knock down a giant tree right before the disaster happened.

When I confront him, though, I’m surprised to find I’m drawn to him. He’s grumpy and tough, but I see something in him. And it’s something that has me wanting to get to know him better.

Thoughts on Grumpy Mountain Man

In Grumpy Mountain Man, we meet Dakota and Chaz. This one sucked me in quickly. Dakota is frantically trying to bake a cake for the baking competition, and it falls. I’ve had my fair share of baking fails, so I feel this one deep. I once baked my mountain dew cake without eggs in it. I also attempted to bake a batch of cookies recently and forgot about half the flour because I was distracted. My husband jokingly tells me I’m not allowed to bake without him around to help because of this.

I was a bit surprised when Dakota abandoned her dream of opening a bakery after the competition. I fully expected her to continue to chase that dream with Chaz helping her. I don’t know why I found this to be disappointing, but I did.

Chaz seems a bit more one-note and not as memorable as Dakota. But it still works. I do love how honest he is about everything. The spice/smut/sex/whatever you call it was a bit bland here, but the romance and love aspect was amazing. It was clear this one was written with true love in mind, and a relationship that was meant to last forever.

This is a good story that kept me reading on a hot August day, and I enjoyed it. It was written in true Lilah Hart style, and it did exactly what it was meant to do, which was keep me entertained for an hour.

Final Thoughts on Grumpy Mountain Man

I’m calling Grumpy Mountain Man a four star read. I thoroughly enjoyed it and have no real complaints. It was great, it entertained me, and I’m happy that I read it.

I’m certainly curious how the rest of this series will go. The Seduction Summit Lumberjacks is the second series from Liah Hart that I’ve read, and it has become a goal of mine to read everything she has written, and I’m slowly but surely checking them off the list, one at a time. If you are a fan, keep checking back for more reviews, and see if my ratings compare to yours.

The best part about all of her short stories is that even when they are part of a series, they can be read as a standalone, and the order does not matter. I like to follow the order of every series I read, just because I have a bit of obsessive compulsive disorder, but it isn’t required, and that is nice.
