The Forgotten Chapter
The Forgotten Chapter is the latest short story to be checked off my to be read list. It is the third in a seven part series. I love a good short story before bed at night.
Short stories are things that can be read in a single day, there is no playing the “just one more chapter” game while gambling with the amount of sleep I’ll get. It is something I can do instead of mindlessly scrolling social media, and when I take a break from working to get up and move around. That is what I love the most about short stories.

About The Forgotten Chapter
Out of the chaos and uncertainty of war, a shy young bookseller comes into her own in a short story of unexpected love, daring, and empowering courage by New York Times bestselling author Pam Jenoff.
It’s 1943 in London. Paige Miller, an ordinary shopgirl at the fabled department store Selfridges, falls for Danny, an American GI who comes by the books counter at the same time every day. As she slowly lets him into her heart, Paige realizes that Danny is keeping a secret. One that could change the course of the war—and both their lives.
Pam Jenoff’s The Forgotten Chapter is part of Blaze, a collection of short stories about incendiary women across the decades who dare to defy convention. They can be read or listened to in one sitting.
Thoughts on The Forgotten Chapter
I was surprised when I started this story how it sucked me right in. I also absolutely love WWII historical fiction. So this was definitely a story to be enjoyed.
I loved Paige as a person, she was stubborn and wouldn’t accept handouts, she was determined to work her way up, but not so stubborn that she couldn’t see an opportunity when it was presented to her.
One thing I really loved was watching Paige grow into the woman she was meant to be. For too long, she hid her past and was ashamed of it. But Danny changed that for her, and despite the fact their relationship was cut far too short, it was exactly what Paige needed. It is amazing how perspectives can change when someone points it out to you.
Overall, this was a good story. Not necessarily as much about the war as it was about our main characters with war happening around them.
Final Thoughts on The Forgotten Chapter
I am calling The Forgotten Chapter a four star read. I thoroughly enjoyed it, but I also wanted so much more. I’m not sure if I want it to be a full novel, or if I wanted there to be more information and story about the war itself in this story. It felt complete in some ways, but it didn’t at the same time.
I can’t quite articulate what I needed from this story to be a five star read. But it just didn’t quite make it there. But four star reads are still great reads in my opinion.
