Wild Mountain Man
Wild Mountain Man is the latest short story to be checked off my to be read list. This is the second in a six part series called Seduction Summit Lumberjacks. I first discovered Lilah Hart and her short stories when I read the Wildwood Valley Brides series.
I’ve come to really enjoy the instant-love, happily ever after, grumpy mountain man stories. They are a nice break in between reading heavier novels. Not to mention that they are perfect if you’re stuck in a reading slump, because they only take an hour to read each one.

I also really enjoy short stories in the summer because I’m always crazy busy, and don’t have the time I want to devote to reading. Short stories like this mean that I can always read, but also not get sucked in and so involved in a story that I have to ignore life and keep reading to finish it.
If you’ve followed me here for any length of time, then you know how much I love a good short story. Because it takes talent to write a quality short story. Any author can prattle on for four hundred pages and stretch their writing out with all kinds of fluff, fillers, and random side characters and stories. But it takes actual skill to write a short story, because every single word counts. You can’t waste anything with extra fluff. Yet you have to develop characters the same way as in a full novel, otherwise they can be boring and one-dimensional.

About Seduction Summit Lumberjacks
A national baking competition has come to the Seduction Summit Lodge, bringing aspiring bakers from all over the country. For six contestants, sweets aren’t the only thing on the menu. The logging crew nearby is stocked with hot lumberjacks who have no interest in finding love…until it sneaks up on them.
About Wild Mountain Man
She’s only in town for a few days. Can he find a way to convince her to stay?
I don’t have time for a flat tire.
But I’m only a couple of minutes from my destination when a flat tire is exactly what I get. And now I’m going to be late for the welcome reception, which could get me disqualified from the baking competition.
Luckily, a handy lumberjack is in the truck behind me. Not only does he put on my spare tire, he promises to hook me up with a new tire before I leave town Sunday.
Once I’ve driven away from him, though, I can’t stop thinking about him. As it turns out, he can’t stop thinking about me either. Maybe it’s time to rethink my life plan.
Thoughts on Wild Mountain Man
In Wild Mountain Man we meet Teagan and Krebs. At first I wasn’t sure I was going to like either one of them. It seemed like they were too childish or high school level awkward in conversations. But the more I read, the more they grew on me.
I had previously complained in the first book that our main character totally abandoned her dreams of owning a bakery. Here, Teagan didn’t do that, and I love that. Her specialty was making candy, and she created a very successful business around that, and it made me happy. But then again, I love seeing a woman passionate about something and succeeding.
I thought it was sweet how supportive that Krebs was with her dreams and goals. He wanted to see her happy, and that is exactly what any successful relationship is. It is lifting each other up and making each other better.
Wild Mountain Man ended up being a much better story than I was expecting it to be, and this made me happy.
I’m finding that I’m looking forward to the rest of this series, and continuing to read it and see where everything leads. I love the happily ever after endings, especially when I’m reading darker romance novels. Short stories like this are a perfect break from some of the crazy dark stuff I’ve been reading lately. The darker stories tend to be longer than my usual reads too, and taking a break for a story like this is literally a perfect break.
Do you ever take breaks from your current reading for a sanity break with something cute with a guaranteed happily ever ending? I’m noticing that I do it more often, and wonder why I didn’t start doing it sooner.
Final Thoughts on Wild Mountain Man
I’m calling Wild Mountain Man a four star read. It took a little bit for the characters to become likable, but the more I read, the more I wanted to see that happily ever after happen and I found myself rooting for them.
If you are struggling with this one at the beginning, it really does get better. Just keep reading. It isn’t a long story, so it won’t take long for the characters to grow on you.
