Blood Bound
Blood Bound from author Renate Rowland is the latest novel to be checked off my constantly growing to be read list that I can’t ever seem to keep up with. Anybody else struggle with this? I really wish I could just read all day. Is that a thing? A professional reader? It should be! But I digress.
Blood Bound is the debut novel from author Renate Rowland, and is the first in a three part series. I’m always excited about any author’s debut novel, because I think there is something really special about the first novel written. Besides that, it isn’t easy writing a novel, and it should be celebrated.

About Blood Bound
Love. Destiny. Honor – Two lives entwined by fate in an origin story you have never heard before. Blood Bound is a suspenseful romance with a splash of the paranormal. It is the first title in the ‘Bound by A Web of Wyrd’ Trilogy, a dark-themed retelling of vampire origin based on Norse Gods in a modern, post-Ragnarǫk setting.
He attacked her. Killed her. Turned her into a monster to save her. Now, Eve’s life lies in Kjan’s hands, and if she doesn’t abide by his rules, he will make her next death permanent. But how can she trust him? And what is this compelling connection they share? Will breaking just one little rule really make him the death of her… again?
Two simple rules:
Don’t kill.
Don’t get attached.
And yet here he was, taking a new charge after she interrupted his suicide and fell victim to his most primal instincts. Kjan’s failures with her predecessor still haunt him a century later. If Eve knew the truth about his past, she would never trust him.
He saved her, but really, he put a target on her back. Now, she will be hunted for the powerful blood in her veins.
His Blood.
Thoughts on Blood Bound
Blood Bound is longer than my typical reads, at 562 pages. Normally I get distracted with books that big, and I was really worried that would happen here. I’m also not generally a fan of vampire books, as I always think of Twilight. But I decided I wanted to give it a try, and be open minded about it. Trying books outside of my “usual” is something I strive to do, and it has mixed results.
The results in this case were surprisingly positive. I really enjoyed this book. It kept me engaged and wanting to read more all the time. There was just the right amount of “spice” for being a romance novel without being too graphic or that taking over the plot, and I appreciate that. I wasn’t prepared to enjoy this book as much as I did, and I love that! I get excited when books exceed my expectations.
It is a slow burn, but kept me engaged throughout the entire book. I go back and forth on whether I like slow burn books or not. In some cases, it is boring, and in some it is exactly what is necessary. My only real complaint is it is not told in the first person perspective. That can make it difficult to read for me. But that is the only complaint I have.

Final Thoughts on Blood Bound
Blood Bound is the first in a three part series from Renate Rowland. I have enjoyed it and I am very much looking forward to the next two books in the series and sharing them with you!
If you have not read Blood Bound yet, I highly recommend that you do. If you are a fan of vampire romance, you will not be disappointed with this series.

About the Author
Renate Rowland is an author of suspenseful Paranormal and Contemporary Romance. After being fortunate to have called three different continents her home, she has settled with her family in the US.
She is an artist at heart, and although she expresses that in various ways, she held on to her stories until she felt it was time to give them air and let them breathe on their own. Finding much inspiration in music lyrics, she is driven by the desire to create something as powerful and moving as the artists she admires.
