One True Loves
One True Loves from author Taylor Jenkins Reid is the latest novel to be checked off my huge to be read list, that I literally can’t keep up with. Anybody else have this issue? I really wish I could take a break from life and just read. A reading vacation! Why is this not a thing yet?!
“I am finishing up dinner with my family and my fiance when my husband calls.”
One True Loves, Taylor Jenkins Reid
I was originally introduced to Taylor Jenkins Reid and her writing through the book Evidence of the Affair, and I loved it. I knew that she would become a repeat author in my blog, and I wanted to read all of her books. Which I’m slowly making my way through.

About One True Loves
From the author of Maybe in Another Life—named a People Magazine pick—comes a breathtaking new love story about a woman unexpectedly forced to choose between the husband she has long thought dead and the fiancé who has finally brought her back to life.
In her twenties, Emma Blair marries her high school sweetheart, Jesse. They build a life for themselves, far away from the expectations of their parents and the people of their hometown in Massachusetts. They travel the world together, living life to the fullest and seizing every opportunity for adventure.
On their first wedding anniversary, Jesse is on a helicopter over the Pacific when it goes missing. Just like that, Jesse is gone forever.
Emma quits her job and moves home in an effort to put her life back together. Years later, now in her thirties, Emma runs into an old friend, Sam, and finds herself falling in love again. When Emma and Sam get engaged, it feels like Emma’s second chance at happiness.
That is, until Jesse is found. He’s alive, and he’s been trying all these years to come home to her. With a husband and a fiancé, Emma has to now figure out who she is and what she wants, while trying to protect the ones she loves.
Who is her one true love? What does it mean to love truly?
Emma knows she has to listen to her heart. She’s just not sure what it’s saying.
Thoughts on One True Loves
I will be the first to admit that I own every single Taylor Jenkins Reid novel that she’s written. My biggest complaint right now is that I haven’t sat down to binge read every single book of hers. One True Loves was just that good!
One True Loves is the kind of book that will rip your heart out, break it, then put it back again. It shattered me completely, and I wasn’t expecting that when I picked this book up.
“I am wearing black jeans, a slouchy cream sweater, tall brown boots, and a black peacoat. I never wondered what I’d be wearing when I saw Jesse again because I never thought it would happen.
And yet here is the answer to the question I never knew to ask myself: jeans and a sweater.
There’s no dress code for this sort of thing, for seeing the love of your life who has been missing since your first anniversary.
One of the loves of your life.
One of.”
One True Loves, Taylor Jenkins Reid
This book is absolutely beautifully written, in a way that I’ve come to expect from Taylor Jenkins Reid. She has the most amazing way of writing about things the reader will connect with. I felt the exact same way when I read Evidence of the Affair, which is what made me love her writing.
Taylor Jenkins Reid reminds me that love, life, and people all change. We aren’t meant to remain stagnant. Life happens, and we grieve, heal, and keep moving forward. That is just how life is supposed to go. But that doesn’t mean we stop loving someone just because they are gone or that we’ve changed in their absence. Love doesn’t end when someone is gone. It isn’t meant to work that way.
I found myself imagining how I would feel if this situation happened to me. What would I do? I know exactly what my husband would want me to do in his absence. But would I actually do it? Being able to relate to that and feeling the emotions evoked by this novel wasn’t something I was expecting.
Normally I don’t go for books about love triangles. It seems so overdone, boring, cliche, and they’re all the same. If you’ve read one, you’ve read them all kind of thing. But this, this is how you write a solid book about a love triangle!
I couldn’t stop thinking about it, and read even a chapter every time I could sneak one in between other parts of my day until I could sit down and read a solid amount. Books are a journey, and this one took me on that journey completely. But I also found myself desperately wanting to get to the end, because I needed to know who Emma picked. And the end, the end was incredible. It definitely did not disappoint me. It was such a perfect, full circle ending. It honestly had me not only in tears, but finding myself grateful for my own personal relationships.
Final Thoughts on One True Loves
If you haven’t read One True Loves yet, I highly recommend it! You will not be disappointed.
This is a book that will suck you in and keep you there wanting to know more. Taylor Jenkins Reid is a master storyteller. Now I’m picking my next book of hers to read.
