The Next Wife
The Next Wife from author Kaira Rouda is my latest and greatest read. I’m still deciding exactly how to feel about it, but I definitely loved the plot twists that I wasn’t expecting. This was the first novel from author Kaira Rouda that I had ever read, so it was a fun and new experience for me.

About The Next Wife
Kate Nelson had it all. A flourishing company founded with her husband, John; a happy marriage; and a daughter, Ashlyn. The picture-perfect family. Until John left for another woman. Tish is half his age. Ambitious. She’s cultivated a friendship with Ashlyn. Tish believes she’s won.
She’s wrong.
Tish Nelson has it all. Youth, influence, a life of luxury, and a new husband. But the truth is, there’s a lot of baggage. Namely, his first wife—and suspicions of his infidelity. After all, that’s how she got John. Maybe it’s time for a romantic getaway, far from his vindictive ex. If Kate plans on getting John back, Tish is one step ahead of her.
She thinks.
But what happens next is something neither Kate nor Tish saw coming. As best-laid plans come undone, there’s no telling what a woman will do in the name of love—and revenge.
Thoughts on The Next Wife
Kaira Rouda tells the story from each character’s point of view in a chapter. We go from John to the first wife, second wife, and daughter. The story goes back and forth in each chapter specifically dedicated to one character.
“I mean, men aren’t that original. They’re simple beings, easy to figure out. Keep them happy, well fed in all areas if you get my drift, and voila – a happy life.”
Kaira Rouda, The Next Wife
This book started out slowly and felt very predictable. Like Real Housewives or Jersey Shore guilty pleasure predictable. The first few chapters had me wondering if I wanted to finish it because it really did feel like a trashy soap opera to me, and that is boring.
But the best part about The Next Wife is that it gets better the more you read. Don’t give up after just a couple of chapters! You won’t regret finishing it.
Because there are some pretty good plot twists, and a couple that I didn’t see coming myself in The Next Wife. Which is what made it a worthwhile read that I finished pretty quickly.
Final Thoughts on The Next Wife
“Anger can benefit relationships, even though society tells us anger is dangerous and we should hide it. Hidden anger in intimate relationships can be detrimental, that’s for sure. But it’s also true that all emotions have a purpose and evolve to keep us safe. Anger is instinctual. It fuels our primitive need to live and protect ourselves. Anger sharpens our focus, pushes us to fight back when attacked and act to defend ourselves.”
Kaira Rouda, The Next Wife
I finished this book over a three day span, because it kept my attention. Just be patient with the first few chapters of the book, because they are quite predictable. Once I got through that, the book became a lot more interesting.
The Next Wife was a very enjoyable book for me, and I hope you enjoy it as well! This is one that I am glad I didn’t give up on too soon.
The Next Wife Ending
I must confess that the ending of The Next Wife is my favorite part! Because I really didn’t see the plot twists that happened. That is why this book was such a worthwhile read to me.
